Service accounting

The Service Accounting team is based within Finance, Planning and Data Insight section but also elsewhere across the University. The team works closely with budget holders to deliver high quality financial management through close business partnering relationships. The team is professionally responsible to the Director of Finance, Planning and Data Insight although their management reporting line often sits outside Finance, Planning and Data Insight.

Service Accounting is delivered by a range of staff from a variety of backgrounds and levels of experience. In common with other finance disciplines, we are proud to support our staff through professional accounting studies and support with continuous professional development. Our team are members of a variety of CCAB bodies and the University is an ACCA accredited employer - Professional Development.

Success for the Service Accounting Team includes supporting the organisation and budget holders in understanding the financial position, risks to manage and being able to add value in helping the University deliver its strategic priorities. We encourage close working relationships with a wide range of teams to deliver an effective service.

The Service Accounting team provides a high-quality Business Partner support to the Registrar and Secretary, Directors of Sections and other budget holders within Professional Services through:

• Providing professional advice and recommendations to Directors of Sections during regular review meetings.
• Influencing strategic decision making, through professional guidance and support.
• Reviewing processes with a view to eliminate inefficiencies.
• Encouraging effective use of resources to support the University’s strategic plan and supporting strategies.
• Influencing and supporting the Registrar and Secretary, Directors of Sections and budget holders with value for money decision making.
