Biography
Chris has been lecturing in the Department of Mathematical Sciences since completing his PhD in 2004. He became a Senior Lecturer in 2012 and a Professor in 2018. Chris was Director of Education for Mathematical Sciences from November 2013/14 to September 2018. He has been Deputy Head of Mathematical Sciences since October 2016 and Employability Development Director for Mathematical Sciences since September 2018. While at Essex Chris has won the Student Union 'Apple for the Teacher' Award (2006), the University of Essex Excellence in Teaching Award (2010), the Essex County Council Lecture of the Year Award (2014), and a Certificate of Excellence from the Pearson National Teaching Awards (2014). In 2014 Chris became a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Since 2005 Chris has been working with the Advanced Mathematics Support Programme (previously known as the Further Mathematics Support Programme and the Further Mathematics Network) where he is currently a National Coordinator with responsibility for HE Liaison and 16-19 Enrichment.
