This event will focus on the intertwined histories of people of Asian and Black heritage in the Caribbean. The panel consists of distinguished scholars of Caribbean studies and University of Essex students of Asian and Black heritage.

The Speakers will focus on historical analysis of indentured labour, contemporary racial politics, racialized labour practices and social interactions, and lived experiences of being bi-cultural.
Starting with the practice of indentured labour and Indo-Caribbean national identities, the talks will move on to contemporary practices shaped by colonial legacies. Two panelists will share their experiences of being Asian and Black in Trinidad and Barbados respectively.
