Travelling to campus

Our Colchester Campus is based just two miles outside of England’s oldest recorded town, Colchester.

Please note parking is limited on our Colchester Campus so we ask visitors to use public transport wherever possible. Below is some handy travel information.

By train

There are frequent trains from London Liverpool Street to Colchester Main Station (COL). We will be running a free coach service from Colchester Main Station to our campus and back again at the end of the Applicant Day.

Train station coach service

This is a free service. When you arrive at Colchester Station, follow the signs for the forecourt and buses at the main entrance. Our Student Ambassadors will be there to welcome you onto the coach and take your name. Due to a limited amount of spaces you must book your place on the coach service via your myEssexportal (you’ll be asked if you want to book a place when you accept your invitation). Please cancel your place on the coach if it is no longer needed to allow other people to book a space. Public buses also operate from this area so make sure you don’t get on one by accident.

At the end of your visit, an Applicant Day Ambassador from the department will guide you back to the meeting point for the coach service in the Ivor Crewe Lecture Hall. You will then be guided to the coach ready for it’s departure at approximately 4pm. Please note this is a busy route so we strongly advise that you do not book a return ticket before 4:45pm. If you require a wheelchair accessible space on the coach, please contact the Applicant Day team as soon as possible.

Our train station coach service will run on the following schedule:

Arrives Departs Estimated time on campus
 9.50am 10.10am  10.30am
10.50am  11.10am  11.30am
 11.50am 12.10pm  12.30pm

These routes are busy so times are approximate.

By car

When you arrive in Colchester, follow road signs to the University (off the A133). Make sure you turn off towards the near-by town of Wivenhoe. You will then turn onto Boundary Road, which is the main entrance onto campus.

Please use post code CO7 9HT for Wivenhoe House when using a sat nav for directions. Our postcode is CO4 3SQ, however our campus is so large that this will direct you to the wrong side of campus for your Applicant Day.

Parking for Applicant Day visitors will be available in Valley car park located on Park Road. Once you are on Boundary Road, please look out for our ‘Applicant Day Parking’ signs which will direct you to Park Road.

Please do not park in the multi-storey car park as this is for registered vehicles only and you may incur a fine.

Parking for Applicant Day attendees is free but you will need to print a parking permit and display this on your dashboard on the day. Parking permits are available on your myEssex portal
