Colchester Applicant Days

If you've made an application to study at our Colchester Campus, you might be invited to an Applicant Day.

Our Applicant Days have a departmental focus, so they provide the perfect opportunity to get to meet academic staff, chat to current students and get all of your questions answered before you make your final choice via UCAS.

Your invitation will be sent via email, so please keep an eye out for it. 

Responding to your invitation

Once you have received your invitation, you will need to respond to let us know if you will be attending. To do this you’ll need to set up your myEssex portal by following the steps below:

  1. Head to the myEssex portal
  2. Complete the registration form
  3. Click on the link in the activation email

Once you have clicked on the link in the email, you will then be able to access your portal where you will find your Applicant Day Programme and the following options regarding your invite:

  • Confirm you are able to attend the date by booking your place
  • Request an alternative date if you are unable to make the original date
  • Cancel your invitation to let us know you will not be attending

Places are limited, so please respond to your invitation as soon as possible.

Your Applicant Day Programme

For most courses, the Applicant Day will run from 10.30am – 4.00pm.

Your programme for the day will be unique for each subject so please check your Applicant Day Programme on your myEssex portal very carefully.

Our courses offered by our School of Health and Social Care feature a different programme to the one below so please ensure you check your programme carefully.

10.30am - Registration

Ivor Crewe Lecture Hall (ICLH)

Registration will open at 10.30am. Please head to the Ivor Crewe Lecture Hall when you arrive. There will be signs directing you from our Applicant Day Parking area to help you find your way to the main venue.

10.45am - 12.45pm - Experience Essex

Ivor Crewe Lecture Hall (ICLH)

This in a non-compulsory session aimed at applicants and their guests who have not visited the campus before, or those who like another look around – everyone is welcome. During this session you can:

  • View our accommodation and tour the campus from the Silberrad Student Centre. Accommodation will be available to view at your leisure from 10.45am to 12.45pm.
  • Attend a talk in Auditorium B, ICLH. Accommodation: 10.45am, Student Finance 11.45am (20mins per talk).
  • Chat to our Student Services in the ICLH. Representatives include; Student Finance, Essex Abroad, Admissions and Accommodation.

If you do not want to attend this session, please arrive by 12.30pm instead. Please note, unfortunately you will be unable to undertake any of the activities mentioned above outside of this session.

12.45pm - 1.15pm - Welcome talk

Ivor Crewe Lecture Hall (ICLH)

Following a brief welcome talk, you will be guided to your subject's departmental activities.

1.15pm - 3.45pm - Departmental activities

Each subject has a unique programme for the day, so please head to your myEssex portal to find out what’s in store. All programmes will include an informal interview and a cold buffet lunch for you and your guests.

Travelling to our Colchester Campus

By car

The address for our Colchester Campus is:

Wivenhoe Park

If you are using a sat nav, please use the postcode for Wivenhoe House Hotel which will ensure you reach the correct side of the campus: CO7 9HT. Once you reach Boundary Road, please follow our ‘Applicant Day Parking’ signs. Our Patrol Officers will also be on hand to direct you to the allocated parking area for visitors. Please do not park in the multi-storey car park as this is for registered vehicles only.

Parking is free for our visitors but you will need to print and display the Applicant Day Parking Permit which can be found on your myEssex portal.

By train

There are frequent trains from London Liverpool Street to Colchester Main Station (COL). We will be running a free coach service from COL (also referred to as Colchester North Station) to our campus. You can find information about the schedule and book your place on the coach via your myEssex portal

The coach will depart from the campus to take visitors back to the station at 4pm. Please note, this is a busy route so we strongly suggest that you do not book a return ticket which departs before 4.45pm.

Overnight accommodation

Our 4* Wivenhoe House Hotel is on our Colchester Campus and is a 5 minute walk to the main venue for the day. For further information or to book a room, please contact the hotel and quote ‘UoE visitor rate’ when booking to receive our special discounted rate.
