How to get involved

Sustainability Engagement Group

Sustainability Engagement Group

The Sustainability Engagement Group coordinates and implements the Essex sustainability policy. The group includes both staff and student representatives. We aim to reduce the costs incurred by our University by improving waste, energy, transport and catering management, working with existing human resources and support.

In all our current activities, such as recycling, energy management, habitats, fair trade, transport, and procurement, our University has a considerable carbon footprint, but we are targeting considerable reductions in net emissions of carbon in the coming years. Although much has been achieved, there is much still to be done.

Get involved on campus

#Littlechoicesbigchanges

The aim of LittleChoicesBigChanges is to encourage students to save energy and recycle when living in University accommodation.
We run the campaign each year to reduce our carbon footprint and to help you learn about sustainable behaviour.

Reduce

  • Save energy by switching off what’s not in use (including chargers, screens and lights).
  • Boiling the kettle? Only fill with what you need.
  • Take a reusable cup to cafes on campus and save up to 25p when you buy a hot drink.

 Recycle

  • Put tin cans, card & paper, plastic bottles & trays in your mixed recycling.
  • Put glass bottles & jars in the glass bin.
  • Non-recycling waste and food leftovers should go in general waste.

Protect

  • Dripping tap? Broken window? Flickering lights? Report faults to Estates by emailing us.
  • Always put your litter in a bin – keep campus looking beautiful!
  • Put wipes, sanitary products, floss, cotton buds etc. in the bin – don’t flush them down the toilet.

Live Sustainably
