Wifi for staff and students
eduroam
eduroam, short for education roaming, is the University's main wifi network for current staff and students. It's free to use and is available at all of our campuses, however, eduroam is not available in student accommodation.
- How to connect: choose eduroam from your available networks and enter your University email address and password. For help see how to connect to eduroam.
Student accommodation
Wifi in student accommodation is provided by external providers. Full details are in your accommodation welcome pack. You can report any problems with wifi in student accommodation to these providers.
Wifi for visitors and guests
Essex Guest
Essex Guest is our wifi network for visitors and guests. It's free to use and is available at all of our campuses. This wifi network is not intended for current staff and students and will not accept @essex email addresses - please use eduroam instead.
- To connect, choose Essex Guest from your available networks, enter your personal email address and accept our IT Acceptable Use Policy (AUP).
- Once connected you get ten minutes of internet access. For 24 hour access, you'll need to verify your email address by following the link in the verification email we have sent you.
EventEssex (Colchester Campus only)
A special wifi network managed by Event Essex for conferences and events. Contact EventEssex if you are planning an event that needs wifi access.
