European funding

Horizon Europe

Horizon Europe is the successor program of Horizon 2020. As part of the UK Government’s recent announcement confirming the EU/UK ‘trade and cooperation agreement’, the UK will associate to the EU’s €95.5B seven year Horizon Europe research and innovation programme, which is expected to officially launch in February 2021. Turing Scheme

The UK will no longer particapte in the EU’s Erasmus+ university exchange programme. A £100 million replacement programme, called the Turing Scheme, will start in September 2021.

Postgraduate research funding

Knowledge Exchange/Industry or collaborative studentship award

Collaborative or industry led studentship opportunities are developed through the Knowledge Exchange team.

Research based externally funded studentships

Funding for PhD studentships obtained as part of successful research grants or applied for by potential supervisors as a standalone studentship funded by trusts, foundations or similar bodies. Includes collaborative or industry led studentship opportunities developed through the Knowledge Exchange teams, including international development related funding.

Training Grants that support research studentships

Training Grants refer to block funding from UKRI research councils and non-UKRI funding bodies, such as Doctoral Training Partnerships or Centres for Doctoral Training which require a strategic approach, often with multiple partners (both academic and non-academic) and detailed training opportunities over a number of years covering more than one cohort intake.

University supported studentships

There are a variety of University funded scholarships and bursaries available for Postgraduate students to support thier studies.
