Biography

Dr Jan McAllister leads the Division of Speech and Language Therapy in the School of Health and Social Care. Jan's background is in Communication Sciences, Psychology and Speech Technology. Before joining the University of Essex in July 2020 she worked at the University of Edinburgh, the University of Auckland and the University of East Anglia, where she was involved in setting up the Speech and Language Therapy programme. Jan's research interests include disorders of fluency, the societal and psychological impact of developmental speech and language difficulties, and interventions for social anxiety disorder. She uses quantitative methods in her research. Her recent projects have involved secondary analysis of large scale birth cohorts.
