Biography

Gemma Martínez-Garrido is a Lecturer in Spanish in the Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics at the University of Essex since September 2015. She holds a degree in Translation and Interpreting (Universitat dAlacant, Spain) and a PhD in Audiovisual Translation (University of Kent). She has worked as a professional translator and interpreter in Spain and United Kingdom. Before joining the University of Essex, Gemma worked as Catalan Lectora (2001-2003), Assistant Lecturer (2003-2007) and Spanish Language Co-ordinator (2007-2015) at the University of Kent, where she taught Spanish and Catalan language, Translation and Interpreting. She collaborates regularly in research projects with the University of Alicante and Zaragoza (Spain) and with other HI institutions in Spain. Since 2013 Gemma is also teaching Audiovisual Translation in the METAV (Master Universitario Europeo in Traduzione Audiovisiva) at the University of Parma (Italy). External Examiner (Modern Foreign Languages) at University of Brighton.
