Biography

In addition to teaching SF and Creative Writing modules at the University, I am a part-time manuscript assessor for 'The Writers Company', a volunteer editor for 'Short Fiction Journal', and an on-line buddy for Napier Friends, assisting asylum seekers who reside at the barracks with English language skills. I am also involved in Colchester WriteNight. I have several writing credits to my name: short stories, flash fiction and poetry, which have appeared in Mslexia, The New Welsh Review, Writers Forum, and various on-line journals. I have been quite successful in competitions including being short-listed for the CWA Debut Dagger Award in 2013 and winning the 'Language Evolves' speculative writing competition in 2022. My novel 'The Mune' (part of my PhD thesis) is due to be published in February 2025. Research interests

Ways to Communicate in Speculative Fiction

Using fiction to imagine new ways to communicate gender, mental health issues and diseases such as dementia, which impact upon speech and the notion of self.
