Biography
Sarah qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 1998 from University College of Ripon and York St John. She started her professional career on a Basic Grade rotation with Pinderfields and Pontefract NHS Trust before returning to Essex in 2000 and speciailising in Mental Health. Sarah initially worked within inpatient, day services and community mental health services for adults before moving into older adults mental health in 2002 where she remained for her professional career. Sarah held managerial positions within the NHS including; Head Occupational Therapist and Day Hospital Manager, where she was responsible for a Multi-Disciplinary team. Sarah's last position in the NHS before moving to University of Essex was as Consultant Occupational Therapist in dementia and frailty within EPUT. Sarah joined the Occupational Therapy teaching team at University of Essex in February 2018 and she teaches on both the BSc and MSc Occupational Therapy courses as well as inputting to other MDT courses within the School of Health and Social Care, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Sarah's clinical interests remain within mental health with a specialist interest in older adult mental health, particularly dementia care. She regularly contributes to activities within HSC to increase dementia awareness and is a Virtual Dementia Tour and GERT (age simulation) trainer and a Dementia Friends Champion with the Alzheimer's society.
