Biography

Oriola Sallavaci is an Associate Professor of Law, published author, academic leader, and legal consultant with more than 26 years of experience across legal practice, higher education, research, and international consultancy. She holds two Law degrees, an LLM in Criminal Justice, an MSc in Research Methods, and a PhD in Law. She is a qualified Advocate and forensic expert, and has completed the academic training for qualification as a Solicitor in England and Wales. She is a Senior Fellow of Advance HE and an external examiner in Criminal Law at SOAS University of London. She also serves as an academic member of the Education Committee of the Criminal Bar Association of England and Wales. Prior to joining the University of Essex, Oriola taught law at Anglia Ruskin University, Middlesex University, Queen Mary University of London, Birkbeck College University of London, and the University of Tirana. Her teaching and supervisory experience spans undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral education across a broad range of legal subjects. Oriola’s research has been widely published in leading journals, monographs, edited collections, policy reports, and international collaborative projects. Her scholarship explores issues relating to law, justice, forensic science, digital and scientific evidence, artificial intelligence, comparative criminal procedure, cybercrime, and legal reform. She has contributed to multidisciplinary and international research initiatives funded by research councils and other organisations including the ESRC, the British Academy, the European Law Institute, FCDO and the UK Home Office. Alongside her academic work, Oriola has acted as a consultant and legal expert for governmental and institutional projects in the United Kingdom and Albania, including initiatives relating to forensic science strategy, criminal justice reform, and legal policy development. She brings an international and interdisciplinary perspective to legal scholarship, legal education, and policy engagement. Oriola specialises in criminal law and justice, evidence law, forensic science, digital evidence, EU criminal law, comparative criminal procedure, cybercrime, and Albanian law.
