Developing a novel tool to explore the marine volatile metabolome

Organisms release a collaboration of volatiles that make up the volatile metabolome which likely plays a crucial role in marine food webs, atmospheric processes and climatic processes. Individual key gases such as isoprene (Exton et al., 2013), dimethyl sulphide and selected organohalogens (Hopkins et al., 2010) have been thoroughly studied for their properties and roles in biogeochemical cycles, but not so much the profile of all volatile gases as a whole and environmental metabolomics have
