Profile

Biography

I am a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist in a Health and Social Care setting in Northern Ireland, and a student on the professional doctorate in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. In my clinical role I am responsible for providing specialist psychotherapeutic assessment and treatment for children and their key carers, who have social work intervention due to safeguarding concerns. I work with infants, children and young people where the development of a secure attachment is failing, or where there is parental alcohol or drug abuse, domestic violence, mental health issues, or inter-generational transmission of trauma. I have worked for many years supporting traumatised children therapeutically and researching interventions for children who have experienced abuse or neglect. My research interests include exploring interventions for children and their families who have experienced developmental trauma, early interventions to prevent inter-generational transmission of trauma, and family court proceedings. My primary research interest is regarding the link between pathological splitting and children who resist or refuse contact with a parent post parental separation.
