I am a forth year PhD student in the Department of Government at the University of Essex. My supervisors are Professor Royce Carroll, Dr Nicole Baerg and Dr Akitaka Matsuo. My doctoral research focuses on Taiwan legislative politics (and beyond). I am interested in political careers and political polarisation on congressional roll calls and speeches, and particularly in how electoral motives shape preference, representation and ideological positionings. The project is funded by the Taiwanese Ministry of Education. The work brings computational techniques and field experiments to legislative studies. Prior to my PhD, I worked for four years as a Research Assistant at the Institute of Political Science at Academia Sinica, Taiwan.
