Biography

Magda Abou-Seada is a Senior Lecturer in Accounting at Essex Business School and the University Deputy Dean of Partnerships. She has previously held several leadership positions at the University of Essex, including the Head of the Accounting Group at Essex Business School, Faculty of Social Sciences Deputy Dean PGRE and Essex Business School Director of Education. Magda has extensive teaching experience in higher education and is a Certified Management and Business Educator (CMBE). Prior to joining the University of Essex, Magda held positions as Senior Lecturer in Accounting at Middlesex University, UK and Assistant Lecturer at Cairo University, Egypt. She has taught accounting modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and has supervised to successful completion and examined, internally and externally, a number of PhD students. Magda has also acted as chair and member of a number of internal and external validation/review events. Magda’s research interests are in the areas of accounting education and corporate reporting. In accounting education, she is interested in research on the role of education-focused academics, issues related to academic integrity, and the impact of AI on learning, teaching and assessment. In corporate reporting, Magda’s main focus is on narrative/non-financial disclosures and gender representation on boards and in corporate annual reports. Magda is also the leader of the research stream on 'Business Education' that was established in 2024 as part of the Essex Accounting Centre.
