Read about our graduate and British Council Alumni Award finalist Jian Jiang who graduated from Essex with a PhD in Computational Finance. He is the founder of ParkBee, a company which helps to eliminate on-street parking and lower congestion in the UK and Netherlands.

You can also watch his interview with the British Council where he talks about how he came up with the idea for his current company, and how his studies at Essex helped him along the way.

I wanted to study at Essex because I knew the University had a strong focus on research. I also liked the fact that the University was close to London and had a very diverse student body. I found settling into student life at Essex very straightforward. For example, when I first arrived at the University, I was met by a student who took the time to show me my accommodation, get my keys, and gave me a quick tour of the campus. I was particularly impressed with the Department of Psychology, as staff were always available and very motivated to help students. I learned a lot, both from the intellectually stimulating conversations I had with my advisor and from team work activities with other students on my course.
Monica Berstein BSC psychology
I liked the fact that Essex is a campus university, the outdoor spaces are excellent and the course was exactly what I was looking for. Settling into Essex was very rewarding, I am currently part of Essex Sub Aqua Club and I am hoping to join other activities within the university. I lived in Eddington Tower for my first year. Living in the Towers you get to meet a lot of people and its the best way to make new life friends. That's what happened with me. In my second year, I am going to be living with three people that I met on my tower and we have become the best of friends.
