Understanding and explaining the lives of children

We seek to raise questions about how we can find alternative ways of conceptualising childhood, encouraging ground-breaking theoretical analysis, applied to understand and explain the lives of children.

Our aim is to bring together scholars whose work represents a contribution to expanding our understandings of and approaches to children and childhood, filling the conceptual, methodological, social and political lacunae that still exist in the theories and research of mainstream childhood studies. Our approach is multi-disciplinary, making important connections between disciplines, such as developmental psychology, psychoanalysis, sociology, neuroscience, history, anthropology, geography, literature and politics.

Our research group encourages and supports many applications for PhD projects dealing with childhood studies. To find research supervision please view our list of members below and click the profiles to discover an individual's research interests and supervision status.
