Art and Architecture of the Americas

Arara is an online journal devoted to the publication of peer-reviewed articles, reviews, and interviews pertaining the visual arts and architecture of the Americas from all time periods.

Arara is compiled and edited by postgraduate students of the School of Philosophy and Art History at the University of Essex.

Editorial and submission information

Submissions and contact

Submissions in the form of articles, reviews and interviews are welcomed in English or Spanish. The main text of the submitted articles should be in Calibri 12 pt, 1.5 line-spacing and justified. Footnotes should be in Calibri 10 pt, justified, following the Oxford Style. The length of the articles should be between 5,000 and 7,000 words. Reviews and interviews should be of a maximum of 3,500 words.

All contributions should include a short biography of no more than 150 words and a list of illustrations (if applicable). Arara encourages fully illustrated submissions but please note that the responsibility for copyright and permissions for the reproduction of all images and documents lies with the individual authors of each article.

Arara 1999 - 2004

Arara began as an online journal in 1999 with 7 editions being published up until 2004. The founding editors were Marcia Bonnet, Joanne Harwood, Adrian Locke and Charles Swainston, then postgraduate students at Essex. Later editors included Maria Clara Bernal, Isobel Whitelegg and Cristiana Bertazoni Martins.
