Business and Local Government Data Research Centre (BLGBRC)

Funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), the Business and Local Government Data Research Centre provides a range of services and academic expertise from the University of East Anglia, University of Essex, University of Kent and London School of Economics to help everyone realise the benefits of their data.

Essex Chambers of Commerce

Essex Chambers of Commerce is the county’s leading business organisation supporting businesses ranging from SMEs through to national and international companies. We are the only Chamber of Commerce in Essex accredited by the British Chambers of Commerce.

Shark Infested Custard Ltd

Shark Infested Custard Ltd is a rather unique award-winning games development studio. Owned and run by BAFTA nominated, veteran games developer Steven Huckle and founder of The Games Hub.

This Knowledge Gateway based Games Hub has over the past year helped two teams start-up and establish their own development studios and now has six more teams currently taking part.

We run a free, expert driven programme to enable those who have aspirations and a passion to set up their own games company or enter the industry.

Sketchbook Games

Sketchbook Games was founded by Mark Backler who has been working in the games industry for 10 years at companies such as EA, Lionhead, Kuju, Sony and Marmalade on games like Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Fable 2. The company aims to create beautiful experiences that move players on a deep, emotional level.

They are currently working with renowned games writer Rhianna Pratchett on their debut title, Lost Words, which won Best Indie Game, Best Story and Most Creative at Game Connection 2016 as well as Game of the Show at the Intel Buzz Workshop London.

Smart Networked Environments (SmartNE)

SmartNE provides bespoke indoor and outdoor location-based information services using its unique software platform called WAI2Go. Static maps and floorplans are transformed into interactive interfaces that give information, wayfinding and Internet of Things services around complex buildings and sites.

WAI2Go is already in mainstream use at locations such as the Universities of Essex and Warwick and is helping to navigate staff and visitors around the European Space Research and Technology Centre in the Netherlands. In town, SmartNE has launched ‘Colchester’, a location-aware App for residents and visitors that provides information on arts and heritage events and venues.
