The scale at which COVID-19 is at now is something no one expected it to be. We all thought it would be like any other virus; something which would just be cured within days or weeks. But here we are.
COVID-19 has brought so many problems not only to students, but to people in different job sectors who have lost their jobs because of COVID-19. Fortunately, everyone is trying to adapt and handle it as best as they can and the same applied to the life of students here at Essex.
Ever since I have been back at university, I have seen the amount of effort put into make it seem normal for the students and make sure their education isn’t affected. The university had opted for blended learning, which included both online and face-to-face teaching. This meant that international students, who were stuck in their respective countries, were able to proceed with their education. The students who were willing to go on-campus were also treated safely; the university has installed strict rules of group size sand social distancing to make sure there can be a safe campus experience. All the university staff wear masks and gloves and encourage students to do so too, to keep themselves safe. The university has also been able to adjust the coursework and the exams accordingly based on the current situation. They understand the difficulties the students are facing and are helping in any way possible. They have also been considerate to the students living on campus and decided that students who have not moved into their accommodation need not pay until they move in.
I always believe that out of every bad thing, a good thing does come out. I am pretty sure that COVID-19has brought us much close our family members. I personally spent more than half year back at home because of COVID-19and if I’d have been at university, I would not have been able to get such valuable time with my family. We as people have also been able to grow more; COVID-19has brought out the human ability to adapt and carry on. I personally have been able to develop my skills during the pandemic. I have been able to pursue my passion in 3D art and can say that I have gone from being a complete amateur to somewhat knowledgeable in the 3D art field.
Overall, I have been able to have a very smooth university experience. I have been able to get the right guidance and establish effective communication with my lecturers and everyone are being helpful despite the current situation, and I’ve been able to find the silver lining out of all of this.
