The Essex MBA: Enabling me to manoeuvre from implementation support into leading technology-enabled transformation with clarity and confidence

I have over 10 years of professional experience across operations, customer service, and data-focused roles. My background is in Information Technology, and I have worked across frontline service delivery and operational support functions, where I was involved in reporting, process improvement, and supporting organisational change initiatives. I am particularly interested in how data, digital tools, and emerging technologies such as AI can be integrated into organisations in a way that supports people, improves service delivery, and drives sustainable performance. Through my MBA, I am building on this experience to transition into roles focused on change management, transformation, and technology-enabled service improvement.

Through my varied professional experience, I observed that many organisational challenges were not technical, but centred on people, processes, and leadership during periods of change. The transition to the UK was both exciting and challenging, especially in the early weeks as I adjusted to a new academic system, culture, and way of life. Over time, I became more confident both academically and personally, and the experience has helped me grow in independence, adaptability, and resilience. Overall, moving to the UK has been a rewarding learning experience that has strengthened my confidence in working and studying in an international setting.

My top three modules of The Essex MBA are Strategic Management, Sustainable Operations, and Data Analytics.

• Strategic Management stood out because it strengthened my ability to think holistically and long-term, analyse complex business environments, and make informed decisions at an organisational level.
• I particularly enjoyed Sustainable Operations as it introduced me to process optimisation and efficiency from a systems perspective. The exposure to process mining was especially impactful, as it allowed me to visualise how processes operate in practice rather than how they are designed. This interest led me to independently pursue Celonis process mining certifications to deepen my understanding beyond the module.
• Data Analytics complemented this by expanding my background as a data analyst into broader data science concepts, helping me think more strategically about how data, processes, and technology can support sustainable and effective transformation.

Together, these modules strongly align with my interest in change management and technology-enabled improvement.

One of my favourite aspects of life at Essex is the campus atmosphere and the sense of routine it offers. I really enjoy having everything within walking distance, which makes day-to-day life feel balanced and manageable. Going to the gym on campus has become part of my regular routine and has been important for maintaining both my physical wellbeing and mental focus alongside my studies. I also value the green spaces and calm environment, which provide a welcome contrast to the intensity of MBA coursework. As an international student, the friendly and diverse community has made the campus feel welcoming and supportive, allowing me to settle in quickly and feel at home while studying. Overall, life at Essex has offered a healthy balance between academic challenge, wellbeing, and a strong sense of community.

I hope the MBA will shape my career by equipping me with the strategic, analytical, and leadership skills needed to move into roles focused on organisational transformation and change. The programme has helped me shift from an operational mindset to a more strategic perspective, enabling me to understand how decisions are made at an organisational level and how data, processes, and people interact. In particular, the MBA is preparing me to support organisations as they navigate digital and AI-enabled change in a structured and responsible way.
