As the new year begins, many of us set goals to improve our lives to eat a bit healthier, exercise more, get outside a bit more and study harder. But what if we added one more resolution that benefits not just us, but the planet? Living more sustainably is easier than you think, and every small change adds up.
7 easy sustainable resolutions
-
If you are a hot drink drinker then make the switch to using a reusable cup and receive a discount and you also reduce waste by ditching single use cups.
- Spend more time outdoors – keep an eye out for our campus walk events run by our Grounds team. Staff can book onto these via HR organiser.
- Join the Sustainable Students Society.
- Buy less - really think if you need something
- If you do need to shop think about second hand, visit clothes exchange when they are running their sales, shop on Vinted or eBay.
- Eat smarter – try a plant based meal once a week. Reducing meat consumption lowers greenhouse gas emissions and saves water.
- Learn about your carbon footprint – take part in our climate literacy training which is on our Moodle page.
Making sustainability your New Year’s resolution isn’t about doing it all, it’s about doing small things which are achievable. Every small action, from reducing waste to choosing greener transport, adds up to a big impact over time.
