Following the success of our televised pitch event with Brit Asia TV in March, a further nine businesses seeking £7 million of Hi Reinvestment took part in a second televised pitch day at the University of Essex’s Innovation Centre.
Brit Asia TV is an award-winning ethnic diverse worldwide TV on Freeview channel 264 and Sky Channel 767, based in the Midlands, with 8 million subscribers. Last year, they launched Pitch It – a program of 1:1 support and mentoring for early-stage businesses. They are expanding in the east of England, and Angels@Essex saw them as a good partnership. Over the past year, we have developed a unique offer for innovative businesses with Brit Asia TV as our partner and have gained access to high-net-worth individuals and fund managers in their network.
The businesses taking part in the recent Pitch It event were working in a variety of sectors and were pitching their ambitious plans to four angel investors. All the businesses have received 1:1 mentoring support from our dedicated entrepreneurs in residence, which helped them develop their pitch decks to a standard suitable for presentation. Their pitch included the problem, the solution, the plan, the team and the ask of investors. All were pitching primarily for money, but in many cases, suitable advice and support were also provided by the investors' panel.
Find out more about each of the businesses who took part in the event on 9 June, before watching it all on Brit Asia TV:
The Pitch It panel was made up of investors Ravi Shetra, Jat Kara, Gursevak S Shergill (Tony) and Chris Baker.
All nine of the innovators who pitched at the event have been in contact with members of the investor panel and negotiations are ongoing between the parties. We are expecting to have some exciting announcements soon.
University of Essex film and media studies also benefitted from the event, gaining valuable work experience by supporting the Brit Asia TV crew with filming the event. Under the direction of the Brit Asia TV production crew, the students filmed most of the pitches, interviews and behind-the-scenes action.
We are now planning our third televised pitch event scheduled for Wednesday 9 November. Business founders who would like to participate can register now for 1:1 support to help develop their pitch in readiness for the next filming, and investors can register to participate.
