Call for volunteering nominations
The second round of the Higher Education Active Community
Fund (HEACF) Student Volunteering Awards is now open for entries.
The Awards, developed and managed by the Careers Research and Advisory
Centre (CRAC) and the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE),
are intended to reward student and staff volunteers who have shown
significant commitment to activities funded by the HEACF. The Awards also
aim to recognise outstanding projects that have met the objectives of the
HEACF.
This year marks the launch of the Awards for higher education staff
who, as part of the objectives of the HEACF, are actively encouraged to
participate in volunteering projects, building relationships between
universities and their local communities.
Last year, Essex student Claire Richards won an award for the Essex
Street Law project which she devised. The project aimed to promote an
understanding of individual rights and responsibilities through
interactive law sessions for Scholl children. Claire was chosen from more
than 300 nominations and was presented with her award at a ceremony at
Manchester United Football Club.
Students and staff are actively encouraged to apply for this year’s
Awards, which will culminate in an Awards Ceremony to be held in December.
Winners receive vouchers worth £200. All entry forms, guidance notes and
details of last year’s winners are available from
www.heacf-awards.ac.uk. CRAC
is also running an HEACF Awards Helpline on 01223 448 541. The closing
date for entries is 5pm on 27 October 2004.
