Fair play to football club
The University Football Club made club history at the end
of last season as they made a clean sweep of all of the Fair Play and
Sportsmanship Awards last season.
The University first team plays in the Premier division of the Kent and
Blaxill Border League and the remaining teams play in the first, second,
third, and fourth divisions of the KP Evans and Co Ltd Colchester and East
Essex Football League.
Sports Centre Operations Manager and football club secretary, David
Gladwell collected the awards at the presentation evenings of the
respective leagues. He commented afterwards that the awards reflect the
players', and the coaching staff's strong belief that those representing
the University in sporting activities should always play in the best
spirit of the game.
To demonstrate the club philosophy further, the third team successfully
managed to play the whole season without picking up a single dismissal or
a yellow card.
Successful Chums
There was plenty of sporting activity on campus this
summer as over two-hundred children participated in the Sports Centre's
CHUMS programme.
The programme is a holiday activity club offering children the chance
to take part in a range of sports. Over five weeks children competed for
the title of CHUMS challenge winner with awards presented for excellence,
all round ability, and effort.
Future CHUMS programmes will be held over Christmas and Easter. For
