Staff get arty for volunteering project
Staff at the University and Students Union took up their
paint brushes and helped liven up a wall at a local Primary School.
Alresford Primary School officially opened its new library on during
July with one of its walls emblazoned with a mural painted by volunteers
from the University.
The
Mural was drawn by Simon Hilton, a member of the Students' Union staff,
and included such characters as Harry Potter and Little Red Riding Hood.
Head teacher Robert Collins said: 'The children were really excited
about the mural. They have seen it grow from outline drawings to the
finished article over the last few weeks and have made lots of positive
comments about it. It really brightens up a corridor wall that was boring
before and goes with our library very well. We really appreciate the work
of the volunteers as without them we would not have been able to carry out
this project.'
Lynne McNab, Community Volunteering Manager said: 'It was a good way of
promoting volunteering to both staff and the children. Part of the mural
had been left unfinished for the school children to complete so they could
take ownership of it as well.'
