Refugee research centre planned
The University recently hosted three visitors to
assist with the proposed formation of a Centre for Trauma, Asylum and
Refugees.
Professor Richard Mollica, director and founder of the Harvard Program
in Refugee Trauma (HPRT), Mary Petevi, international consultant who held
key positions in WHO and UNHCR in relation to the mental health of
refugees, and Dr Aida Kapetanovic director of the HPRT Bosnia programme in
Sarajevo were the guests of Professor Renos Papadopoulos, director of the
MA/PhD in Refugee Care in the Centre fro Psychoanalytic Studies.
The Centre is intended to provide a forum for individuals, including
University staff, and organisations in this country and abroad to exchange
knowledge and experiences and develop further their work in the field of
mental health of refugees which includes a strong social component.
The visitors met with Professor Rob Massara, and Professor Joan
Busfield, as well as with Professor Karl Figlio, Dr Roderick Main, Dr Rob
Stones, and Dr Andrew Fagan.
