Historian offers TV
insight into Peasants' Revolt
Just weeks after Dr Chris Thornton of the Department of
History took part in the making of an episode of Time Team, his
colleague Dr Herbert Eiden has been interviewed by the programme's
presenter Tony Robinson.
Dr Eiden, the Assistant Editor of the Victorian County History at
Essex, was interviewed at the historic Cressing Temple Barn about the
Peasants' Revolt of 1381.
Dr Eiden, who wrote his thesis on the events of the Revolt in East
Anglia, was invited by the Oxford-based company Spire Films to contribute
to a two-part documentary.
In 1381 Cressing Temple was a manor belonging to the Order of the
Knights’ Templar. Dr Eiden offered insights into why Cressing Temple was
attacked by the rebels and why it took so long to rebuild the complex of
buildings in the aftermath of 1381.
The documentary is scheduled to be broadcast in the autumn of 2004.
