University of Essex Southend
completes Odeon deal
The University's presence in Southend will today go a step further as
the University offically takes possession of a major site on Southend High
Street. The University will receive the keys to the former Odeon site,
marking the growing presence of the University of Essex in Southend. The
site will be regenerated to form a significant part of the campus in
Southend in addition to the £52 million building currently under
construction which is due for completion in 2004.
Funding for the acquisition and regeneration of the area was announced
by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister back in July to enable the
continued development of the University of Essex/South East Essex College
campus in Southend.
