Artist at work on campus
Original art was created at a symposium held at the University Gallery
in conjunction with the recent exhibition, Silently You .
'Concrete on Paper: Poetry and Art Athens, London, Essex' it
brought together the exhibition’s curators Professor Marina Warner and Dr Philip Terry
from the Department of Literature, Film and Theatre Studies and Professor Dawn Ades
from the Department of Art History and Theory who explored how concrete
poetry has inspired many artists and writers today.
Notable artists and writers Richard Wentworth, Fiona Banner, Sam
Winston and David Plante cane together to discuss their work and that of
poet Nikos Stangos in the context of the exhibition.
As the audience watched, Fiona Banner, who was nominated for the Turner
Prize in 2002, used text to create portrait of a female nude model. The
result was called Vicki, an intriguing description of the model’s body
which then went on display in the University Gallery.

Music Hall money
A charity night performance of Music Hall at East 15 raised £590 for
Haven House Children's Hospice.
The production, by second-year BA Acting students, ran for a full week,
comprising two entirely different shows containing rousing songs and
sentimental ballads from the days of Music Hall. It sold out each night,
with ticket sales from the Thursday show donated to this local charity.
Professor Leon Rubin, Director of East 15, said: 'As well as being a
brilliant show, Music Hall raised money for a very deserving local
charity.'
Haven House Children’s Hospice provides holistic care for children and
young adults who have been diagnosed with a life-limiting condition. For
