Yolanda named 'Most Enterprising Student in Essex'
A student from the Department of Accounting, Finance and
Management has been named as the 'Most Enterprising Student in Essex'.
Yolanda Martin-Camacho was awarded the title after her work with local
firm Wilkin and Sons Ltd. is estimated to have saved them £11,000.
Yolanda received the award and a cheque for £250 after participating
in the
Shell
Technology Enterprise Programme (STEP). Under the scheme 12 undergraduate
students from across the county took up an eight week work placement with
a company based in Essex and were given a specific project to complete.
Yolanda's project with Wilkin & Sons was to prepare a procedures
manual for a new computer system which could be used to resolve queries on
day to day operations. She also had to prepare and analyse an operational
flow chart and recommend improvements in procedures.
Following her success in the county-wide STEP programme, Yolanda was
also runner-up in the Regional STEP finals during September. Yolanda said,
'STEP was a very enjoyable experience, and I would recommend it to all
students. I have improved many skills and I have a clearer picture of my
career path. I know now how the real business world works, and I am ready
for it.'
If anyone is interested in participating in STEP next year, please
contact Cheryl Foster on 01277 362944.
