Working with external web developers
Over the years the University has encountered significant problems when
working with external web developers, including long delays on agreed
deadlines, significantly sub-standard work, and the requirement for
time-consuming close monitoring and checking of work delivered.
For this reason, in January 2009 the Web Steering Group established that:
Major University sites (departments, key
services, etc):
- must not engage third party web developers;
- must be hosted on University webservers
using supported technologies;
- and must use a folder off the essex.ac.uk
domain name giving URLs along the lines of
www.essex.ac.uk/sitename.
Exceptions to this require approval from the ICT Steering Group (which has taken on responsibility for what was previously the Web Steering Group's work).
