A generous holiday entitlement of 23 days (for Grades 1-6) or 28 days (for
Grades 7-11), pro rata for part-time staff. (Plus a further 8 bank holidays and
an extra 3 days when the University is closed during the Christmas vacation for

The Occupational Health Service provides confidential and impartial advice
and support relating to any issue affecting the health and well-being of an
individual. It is based at the Colchester campus, but provides a service to all
University employees. Free and confidential staff counselling arrangements are
available in Colchester, Loughton and Southend. The University offers a
comprehensive sickness scheme. The University offers free
eye tests to VDU users combined with an allowance towards the cost of
glasses.
Financial Benefits:
Salary: The University offers competitive salaries which take into account

Childcare:
University Day Nursery The University of
Essex Day Nursery, located at the Colchester campus, caters for children of
employees, students and general public aged between 3 months and 5 years on a
full or part-time basis throughout the year. It offers a child-centred approach
where children are encouraged to develop their creativity, individuality and
self-confidence. As an alternative to the Day Nursery, the University is able to
offer Childcare Vouchers which can be used as payment with any registered or
approved childcare provider. Children’s activities
The University Sports Centre (located
at the Colchester campus) hosts a variety of children's activities. CHUMS, the
popular activity club for children aged between 8 and 14 years old, provides a
variety of activities including Trampolining, Basketball, Kwik Cricket,
Football, Dodge Ball, Frisbee Golf and Badminton.
Sporting Facilities:
The The University Sports Centre at
the Colchester campus provides sporting opportunities for employees, students
and visitors. The excellent range of facilities include squash courts, activity
studio, fitness suite, sports hall, cricket facilities, netball courts, tennis
courts and a watersports centre. The Southend and Loughton areas offer a range
of sports facilities near to the campus locations. Corporate rates are available
with a local gym in Southend.

Library facilities: The Albert Sloman
Library at the Colchester campus has a variety of books and other materials
for both students and employees. The Library currently has approximately 940,000
volumes in its collections, and some 1,150 places for users to sit and study. It
is one of the highest spenders on books and periodicals per student among UK
universities. Employees based at other University locations can access the
Library catalogue on-line.
Trade Unions: The University works closely with its recognised trade unions
(UCU, UNITE and Amicus) to maintain good communication links with employees.
