Sustainable transport

Updated September 2012

"The University of Essex Transport Strategy aims to significantly decrease car parking demand on campus and reduce the impact of University generated traffic on the local environment, particularly in terms of congestion and carbon emission levels. This will be achieved by increasing the opportunities for staff, students and other campus users to travel by alternative means of transport and a long term commitment to changing travel patterns related to work, thereby reducing the need for single occupancy car journeys - and promote a sustainable, integrated approach to transport both on and off campus."

bikesFor students and staff who study and work at our three campuses in Colchester, Southend and Loughton the University's sustainable transport strategy underpins a number of schemes and incentives to promote alternative methods of transport to car use, and encourage greater environmental responsibility.

Use the links on the left of this page to find out more about seasonal campaigns for walkers, cyclists and bus users, the cycle purchase scheme for staff, public transport discounts and how to join the University's car share scheme.

If you're a visitor to the University looking for travel information on how to get here, check our campus travel guides.
