Will Cartwright studied philosophy at University College, London, as an undergraduate, and at New College, Oxford, as a postgraduate. Prior to this he had been a student of law, but an increasing interest in the philosophical questions raised by law led him to abandon the study of law for philosophy. Before moving to the University of Essex he taught at the University of Glasgow. He has written on legal and moral philosophy, philosophical psychology, medical ethics and the theory of responsibility.
