Sanja Bahun is co-convener of TJN and chair of the research area “Gender- and children-focused approaches”. Her areas of expertise are international modernism and women’s and gender studies, and her research interests related to Transitional Justice include the operation and representation of justice in oral culture, literature, and the visual and performing arts; gender and children’s rights in transitional societies; and the role of the arts in the processes of reparation and recognition (specifically in the countries of the former Yugoslavia).

Bahun has published articles and book chapters on a variety of subjects concerning modernism, psychoanalysis, theory of the margin, and representation of the conflict-related trauma. She is the joint editor of The Avant-garde and the Margin (2006), Violence and Gender in the Globalized World: The Intimate and the Extimate (2008), From Word to Canvas: Appropriations of Myth in Women’s Aesthetic Production (2009), and Myth and Violence in the Contemporary Female Text (2010, forthcoming), as well as the author of Modernism and Melancholia: History as Mourning-work (2010, forthcoming). Bahun’s current research project is a study of the concept of home.
