Caitlin Phillips is a lecturer within the School of Health and Human Sciences, working specifically for the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (a vocational post-graduate degree, funded by the East of England Health Authority). She is registered as a Clinical Psychologist with the Health Professions Council (HPC). Her area of clinical experience is in adult mental health services, with specific expertise in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and an interest in complex case work. Before joining the University of Essex she worked as a psychologist within the NHS, and in private practice in Nairobi, Kenya (2001-2002). She also worked as a Welfare Officer for the UN Peacekeeping Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC): MONUC. It is through her personal experience of living and working in East and Central Africa that she has a personal (rather than academic) interest in international development, and human resilience.
