Dealing with Land Issues in Transitions
The Essex Transitional Justice Network is pleased to announce its Second Summer School, which will take place at the University of Essex (Colchester campus) from 9 to 13 September 2013. The theme of this year’s Summer School will be Dealing with Land Issues in Transitions.
The Summer School will consider how to address land related issues in countries that engage in a process of transition from conflict or repression to lasting peace. In particular, it will consider the connection between transitional justice and land related issues such as large-scale displacements or dispossession, through an analysis of existing experiences like South Africa, Colombia, Palestine, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo; and it will identify challenges to an effective connection between transitional justice mechanisms, land issues, peacebuilding and development approaches.
Teaching on the Summer School programme will be provided by leading international experts in transitional justice (practitioners and academics) and in the different themes covered. The ETJN Summer School is designed for professionals in non-governmental organisations, national and international governmental organisations, policy-makers, academics and students. Participants in the Summer School will be given ample opportunity to engage in collaborative analysis.
The Summer School is a residential event, based at the University of Essex. Accommodation for delegates will be in rooms on the University campus. Fees are per person and cover all teaching, course material, accommodation and meals for the duration of the Summer School. Non-residential places are also available; the fees for these places cover course costs and lunch for each day of the Summer School.
