Emergency services/emergency contact

Away from campus

In an emergency away from campus requiring ambulance, police or fire brigade, dial 999 to contact the emergency services direct. Do not assume that the activation of a fire alarm will result in Fire Brigade attendance. If you know that they are required, you must call 999. Do not assume that someone else has already called.

Details of emergency contacts for each campus are given below.

Colchester Campus

The Information Centre located off Square 3 employs a staff of Patrol Officers who provide 24-hour cover and can help with general information, campus directions and security concerns. Patrol Officers are trained in first aid. They can be reached at extension 2125.

In an emergency requiring ambulance, police or fire brigade, if you are on campus dial 2222.

Loughton Campus

In an emergency at Loughton campus requiring ambulance, police or fire brigade, dial 999 to contact the emergency services direct. You must then inform Reception at Hatfields 020 8508 5983 of the incident and what has been done. Outside school hours and up until midnight Monday-Saturday, contact the security guard on 07825 670709.

Southend Campus

Support is in place to respond to emergencies or serious incidents which may occur when other services are closed.  Students residing in University Square will benefit from a 24-hour staffing presence.  For students living in private accommodation, contacts are as follows:

  • Between 5.30pm and 10pm  (6pm on Sunday) please contact Reception on 01702 328208
  • After 10pm (6pm on Sunday) please contact Security at University Square 01702 878408 or the mobile is 07827 988085 stating that you are a non resident student

Personal Safety

We would remind all students to be mindful of their personal safety.  Be vigilant and report anything suspicious to patrol officers or the local police, on 101.

Police Community Support Officer

The University part funds a Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) based on the Colchester Campus.  The role of the PCSO is to work with other services on campus and in the local area to promote safety and crime prevention and to provide reassurance and support to students affected by crime.
