100 British Academy scholarships for undergraduate students from UK universities
Invitation
The ability to summarise and analyse large data sets has become an increasingly
important skill for both academic and professional careers. Social scientists
increasingly rely on sophisticated quantitative data analysis in their studies,
as do professionals like stock market analysts, marketing professionals and
lawyers, to name just a few examples. The stakes for getting it right when
analysing data are extremely high in both academic and professional settings. No
doubt, it is essential to know the appropriate statistical techniques for
analysing a wide variety of data.
In order to better prepare UK undergraduates for these challenges when they
enter academic or professional careers and to help them be internationally
competitive, the British Academy has launched a scholarship programme that
allows 100 undergraduate students at British universities to take summer school
courses at the prestigious Essex Summer School in Social Science Data Analysis.
This scholarship programme is a great opportunity for UK undergraduates to learn
important quantitative skills from the best scholars in the world and thereby
gain an edge in an increasingly competitive job market.
Course Choice
The program allows undergraduate students to apply for introductory and
intermediate courses. The latter require at least one prior statistics course
and good knowledge of algebra. Courses offer intense training with 35 hours of
class teaching and lab sessions.
