Tempest photography prize

Photography is one way of reflecting on the fact that your Study Abroad period is as much a visual experience as anything else. Each year we ask students to submit photos taken during their Study Abroad period.

Each student may enter up to three colour or black & white photos into the competition.

Any camera can produce an interesting image. Sharper images can obviously be made with digital cameras or single lens reflex cameras, but 'point and shoot' and even disposable cameras can also do the job.

The prize will be awarded annually by Tempest Photography to the value of £500 per year. If awarded to more than one student the prize will be shared equally between the winners.

Photographs are judged by merit. This means that we look at composition, framing, and focusing, as well as whether the photo is interesting either as an image in the abstract or as a social or political commentary. A winning entry might also be chosen because it captures or communicates a strong sense of place.

Submission Information

Please complete the Entry Form with a title and short description of your photos. Submissions should be your own work; if you have had assistance this must be stated.

Entries can be submitted in the following format:

  • colour or black & white prints - with a negative;
  • electronic submissions on flash drive or CD – not by email attachment.

DEADLINE: Friday 25 April 2014 (in your final year of study).

Judging will take place in week 38.

The winning photograph(s) will be framed by Tempest Photography and for final year students will be presented to the winner at the appropriate Graduation departmental reception, or for non-final year students a separate arrangement will be made with the department to present the prize.

GOOD LUCK
