How much will it cost?
In most cases there are no tuition charges other than what you normally pay
to Essex. In some cases your Essex fees will be lower than the normal rate.
Also, the cost of living elsewhere is often lower than in the UK so you should
not assume that study abroad is an expensive option. There are also some
scholarships for which students can apply.
There are also substantial fee reductions; all students spending a full
academic year studying abroad outside Europe are given a 50% reduction on
their normal tuition fees to the University of Essex for that year.
Overseas students spending a full academic year studying abroad in Europe
also receive a 50% fee reduction.
Home/EU students going to Europe for a full academic year under the ERASMUS
initiative pay no fees at all.
N.B. The above fees apply only to students studying abroad for a FULL
academic year.
You will not pay any tuition fees to the Study Abroad university, with
the exception of certain Israeli and certain Latin American universities as
already mentioned.
Students going abroad for part of the year, including ERASMUS students, will
pay fees as normal to the University of Essex; there are no deductions for the
period spent abroad.
