University support for undergraduates
University Bursary - For students who start their course in Sept/Oct
2011
In order to be assessed for the University Bursary, you and all of your
sponsors must have agreed to share your financial information with the
University. You can check if you have done this by calling Student
Loans Company on 0845 603 4016.
The University of Essex Bursary
The University of Essex, along with most other universities, will be
charging UK and EU students an annual tuition fee of £3,375* for all
undergraduate degrees (excluding foundation years).
Cash maintenance bursaries are available for UK students from low income
households to ensure that no student is deterred from applying to Essex on
the grounds of financial hardship:
For those students with residual household incomes up to and including
£25,000 the University will provide a cash bursary of £700 for course
related costs.
Bursary payments are made in two equal instalments, paid in
February and May.
Foundation year students - students who are engaged on a
four-year degree which involves a foundation or preliminary year are charged
a reduced-fee of £1,345 for this initial year of study, meaning that these
students will not be eligible for the bursary in the foundation year.
Subsequent years fees will be set at the standard annual fee amount and
students will become eligible for the bursary (subject to standard
conditions).
EU students – are not eligible for government support
towards living costs and are therefore not eligible for the University
Bursary.
East of England Strategic Health Authority funded students
– students on courses whose tuition fees are paid in full by the East of
England Strategic Health Authority are not eligible for the University
Bursary.
*The tuition fee and University Bursary are subject to annual
inflationary increases. For students planning to start University in
