Vice-Chancellor's Japanese scholarship 2012-13
Details of the Vice-Chancellor's Japanese postgraduate
scholarship available for October 2012 entry
In recognition of the fundraising efforts of the University's Japan Tsunami
Appeal and of the generosity of students and staff in supporting the Appeal,
the Vice-Chancellor is offering one full (fees and maintenance) Scholarship
for a student from Japan to undertake a one-year full-time postgraduate
Masters course at the University.
The scholarship is open to any applicant from Japan affected by the 2011
Tsunami and will be awarded on the basis of academic merit to a student
who would not otherwise be able to take up a place at Essex.
Eligibility
In order to be eligible for this scholarship you need to:
- hold an offer of admission to a one-year full-time Masters programme
- be a national of and residing in Japan and have been affected by the 2011 Tsunami.

To apply for this scholarship, please complete an application form and submit
it by email to the Graduate Admissions Office at the University.

Deadline
The deadline for the receipt of applications is: 6 July 2012.
Selection Criteria
The above scholarship will be awarded only on the basis of academic excellence,
to a student who would not otherwise be able to take up a place at Essex. We will
use the information you provided on your original course application and your
scholarship application to select the successful scholar.
The final selection will be made by a panel of academic and administrative staff
of the University of Essex. The successful candidate will be notified by 1 August 2012.
Terms and Conditions
The scholarship will be awarded in the form of a tuition fee waiver at registration,
and three termly cheques totalling £8,325 to cover the cost of subsistence throughout
the year. It cannot be deferred to a later year or a different course.
The selected Scholar cannot hold a full or partial fees or maintenance scholarship from another source.
The scholarship is subject to the selected scholar firmly accepting the offer of study and registering as
a student of the University of Essex for the 2012-13 academic year. No alternative form of the scholarship
is available.This scholarship is subject to availability of funds, and details given here are subject to
change at any time.
