What do my tuition fees cover?
Your tuition fees include all academic tuition or supervision, use of
our Library and IT facilities, registration, initial examination and graduation,
and subscription towards the cost of student societies and other social
amenities. Fees do not include residence or living costs, or special
re-examination fees. We reserve the right to review the fees chargeable for each
academic year.
I am an Essex graduate/I am a former study abroad student. Do I get a
loyalty discount?
We offer our graduates and former study abroad students a ten per
discount on their first year of tuition fee for postgraduate study. You must be
registered for your first postgraduate study period at Essex, following
completion of your Bachelors (for Essex graduates) or study abroad programme
(for study abroad students), whether it is a taught course or a research degree.
Our loyalty discount is only available for the first year of your study and if
you wholly self funding your tuition fee.
How do I pay my tuition fees?
Tuition fees can be paid in full at the start of the academic year or
in three equal instalments in October, January and April.
If you are a non-EEA student requiring our sponsorship for visa
applications, you must pay your first instalment as a non-refundable deposit in
order to be assigned your CAS. All our other students must pay the first
instalment in order to register. We have a discount scheme if you are paying
three terms in full, in advance. You will be sent full details when your place
is confirmed. Payments must all be in Sterling and can be made with credit or
debit cards, cheques, cash or bank transfer.
What support is available to help me pay my tuition fees?
Further information is avilable on scholarships and bursaries.
For taught courses, many students meet the costs of studying through a
combination of personal savings, family savings, loans and part-time employment.
Many postgraduates find employment alongside their studies and the Careers
Centre at our Colchester Campus and the JobShop at our Southend Campus are good
places to look for part-time work.
If you are an overseas student, you should check whether
your government provides loans for overseas study.
What will I pay in my subsequent years of study?
All fees quoted during your admission process relate to your first year
of study only. In any second or subsequent years of study (eg the second year of
your part-time Masters), you pay the fee published for the relevant academic
year. Our fees are normally published 12 months before the start of our academic
year. For example, our fees for 2013-14 should be published by September 2012.
