Funding for international students

The Almanea Scholarship for science

The Almanea Scholarship for science is dedicated in memory of Nahid Almanea. This will be awarded to one full-time international Taught Masters student in our Faculty of Science and Health who demonstrates a global outlook and shares the University's commitment to widening access to education across the world. The scholarship will be awarded as a full fee waiver for the period of study, plus an allowance of £10,000 towards living costs.

Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarships

These international scholarships are specifically for non-EU students. Awards will be made on the basis of academic merit, and all applications for relevant courses will automatically be considered for a scholarship award. The scholarship is off-set against your tuition fees.

Academic Excellence International Masters Scholarship

Our new Academic Excellence International Masters Scholarship supports overseas students who are funding their own studies at the University of Essex. We are offering a range of scholarships worth up to £4,000 if your grades in your first degree meet the required high academic standard.

British Council

Your local British Council will have information on any scholarship schemes for which you are eligible to apply.

US Direct Loans

We are registered with the United States Department of Education as a foreign school and federal direct loans are available to US students studying at our University. For further information on how to apply please see here.

Government sponsorships

Many national governments provide scholarships for students wishing to study overseas. You should enquire at your own Ministry of Education in good time, as most sponsors have formal application procedures. The amount of funding available will vary according to your country.
