The construction
Work started on site in April 2013 and the new buildings are expected to be completed in late Autumn 2014. Our architect's
impressions show how the finished buildings will look.
Construction of our Library extension/Student Centre
This animation, produced by Kier, shows how the new Library extension and Student Centre will take shape at our Colchester campus.
Minimising disruption
We have worked closely with the appointed contractor, Kier, to plan the project so that it minimises disruption on campus. Noise levels in relation to the Library are
constantly monitored.
- An acoustic screen has been installed between the building site and the Library to act as a sound barrier.
- Specialist equipment was bought by the contractor Kier to reduce noise on-site, with all staff briefed on the importance of minimising noise.
- An acoustic partition has been installed in the Library reading room, providing screening for 200 workstations.
- The access route for contractors to get to the site was designed and revised to minimise disruption to students in our campus accommodation.
- Levels of building work will be reduced during revision and exam periods in May-June 2014.
- Building work will cease during Graduation in July 2014.
- An aquatic wildlife survey was undertaken by an Environmental Consultant.
