New facilities for our Colchester Campus
Read all of the latest news about this significant project for our Colchester
Campus, as we work towards the Autumn 2014 opening of our new Student Centre and library extension.
We are building an extension to our Albert Sloman Library and a new Student Centre at our Colchester Campus.
These two new buildings are at the heart of our commitment to offer excellence in education, by providing the best possible facilities to current and future Essex
students. The work is expected to be completed in Autumn 2014.
The Library extension will offer 388 new study spaces and a new 24/7 postgraduate reading room with 42 study spaces, and will enable us to house 1.4 million books. The Student Centre
will house a 250 study space reading room, our new Student Services Hub, our IT Helpdesk, and a
state-of-the-art media centre. While building work is underway we are working hard to minimise disruption to our students.
- More individual study spaces
- Learning hub for group work
- Expanded on-site library collection
- 'One stop shop' for student services
- New IT facilities
Watch us grow
Building works are underway and progress can now be seen via our webcam. Over the
coming months you will see the new Student Centre and Library extension start to take shape next to our lake.
Our new Student Centre will significantly enhance the student experience.
From study spaces and IT facilities to the co-location of various student services, the centre will become a hub for our students.
The extension to our Albert Sloman Library will significantly increase study
space and our on-site storage capacity for our library collection. The size of our iconic library is being increased by 30%.
