New Student Centre planned for late 2014
Enhancing the student experience at our Colchester Campus
In Spring 2013 work gets underway to build a major new centre to enhance the
student experience at our Colchester Campus.
This major project is part of the University’s £200m capital investment plan, and is at the heart
of our commitment to offer excellence in education, by providing the best possible facilities to current
and future Essex students. Work is planned to start during March with an expected completion date of September 2014.
The scheme will include a new 'one-stop-shop' student centre that houses a
number of student services, and an extension to the existing Albert Sloman Library.
In order to minimise noise and disruption to students, building work noise will be significantly
reduced during revision and exam time in May and June 2013 and 2014,
and work will cease during Graduation in July 2013 and 2014. Other quiet study spaces
will be set aside including the Library reading room on the west
side of the building, which will have an acoustic partition for 200 workstations.

ceasing temporarily during revision, exam and Graduation periods May – July 2013 and 2014.
The new buildings are planned for completion by late 2014, and the
architects are Patel Taylor, who designed the University’s award-winning
Ivor Crewe Lecture Hall.
